NYT Multimedia Story

In late December, the New York Times released an extensive multimedia project on the story of a massive avalanche that killed several people at the out-of-bounds Tunnel Creek ski run near Stevens Pass, located in Washington state.

Not only was the narrative engaging, but the videos, maps, and visualizations used to depict and support certain narrative elements made the piece fascinating to follow.

The NYT Public Editor also wrote a blog entry highlighting the success of the piece and its implications for what story-telling could look like in the 21st century – nearly 3 million people viewed the piece in the first week alone of its publication.
